Who are the Mississippi Choctaw ? |
The Choctaw were originally from the Mississippi Valley, and their creation Myth states that "The Mother Mound" aka "Nunih Waya" was a sacred hill located near Noxapter, Mississippi. Other tribes believed to have originated from "Nunih Waya" were the Creeks (Muskogee), the Cherokee, and the Chicasaw.
Some Mississippi Choctaw refused to relocate to Oklahoma, and were granted Federal Recognition in 1918.
